Day Of Silence

I want to take some time out and tell you guys about something that is personally important to me. Tomorrow is the National Day of Silence. This is a student led form of non violent protest against the harassment and bullying of kids that actually are or perceived to be homosexual or transgender. It began in 1996 with a class assignment and 150 participating students at the University of Virginia.  In 1997 it grew to a national level with 100 different colleges and universities contributing. In 2001 GLSEN became the official sponsor.  GLSEN is the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network and they are constantly championing for those who are being bullied and educating people on the realities of the lack of safety in schools for certain students.

That is the whole idea.  To make schools safe for these children and teens. To end the silence of those in pain. There is no "agenda" other than protecting and educating.  Close to 9 out of 10 LGBT students face harassment every day for just being who they are. This is not ok.  I do not care what you believe but hurting children, damaging them... This is NOT ok. I am not asking anyone to change their personal beliefs.  I am asking you to think before you speak.  Think before you say or do something you can not take back.  Because you never know which straw may break that camels back.
